Southern Idaho Summer Camp by Shane Guyman

We left on Tuesday at 5:00 pm. We as in Colten Wilson, Curtis Sorenson, Thomas Milian, and I (Shane Guymon) were the ones attending. We went to Sunrise campground by the Bear Lake. We didn't do much other than set up camp and plan for the rest of the years activites. On Wednesday we woke up, took down camp, and prepared breakfast. From there we went to Minatonka Caves which is a really cool, dark, damp, cave. From Minatonka Caves we traveled to Bloomington Lake. Bloomington lake is a glacier fed lake (really cold lake, with a big glacier) and a big rope swing. When we left Bloomington we went to a K.O.A campground and went swimming at their pool. On the next morning, Thursday we left the K.O.A campground and went a short distance to the Oregon Trail Museum in Montpelier. It was pretty cool. From there we went to Chesterfield Idaho. We took tours of old pioneer houses and did a service project. The service project involved chizeling off mortor from an old school house. The purpose of the project was so they wouldn't have to buy new bricks. From there we left to Good Enough Campground. The next morning we left for our much anticipated fishing trip. We were out on the lake for most of the day. Colten and I caught the biggest fish. They were both 21 inch long rainbow trout. We caught alot of fish. They were considered small if they were under 17 inches long. We caught altogether probally four decent sized fish and then the two twenty-one inchers. That evening we ate a lot of fish. The next morning we cleaned up camp at Good Enough Campground and went home.

Adventures of the Mountain Men by Curtis Sorenson

When we got to rendezvous the roads were muddy and everything was wet and covered in snow. we decided it would be smart to set up camp before it got too cold. After setting up we did service project which involved building a monkey bridge. We used our mad pioneering skills to lash some timbers together. we strung ropes across the timber frames so the camp could cross the massive river (more like a trickling stream) to get to the knots station where we learned to tie some knots.

We went to the campfire program where we watched skits about mountain men, John Colter, and Lord Bayden Powell. We then went back to camp for the night. We woke up on Friday and went to the flag ceremony, after wich we went to learn mountain man skills. The different stations were musket shooting, archery, fire starting, tomahawk throwing, atalatl thrusting, knot tying, and scrimshaw.

Shane Guymen did the best out of all of us at the musket shooting station. Colten Wilson excelled at archery.Thomas Million started a fire quicker than the rest of us, and Curtis Sorenson was dang good at the hawk throwing. After we we learned our mountain man skills we went to the mountain man dinner where we ate some sort of stew, peach cobbler, and a side of buffalo tongue. Later that night they had the trading blanket were all the people who brought stuff to trade sat around a tarp to trade different miscellaneous items. Joe Ribera got a sweet national frozen foods cooperation hat for a sacagewian dollar and some shells.

On the last day of rendezvous they had the John Colter run where each team races through a series of different challenges where they have to use all the skills they have learned at rendezvous in an attempt to win some fabulous prizes. There was also an event called the cardiac run which was the same thing only for the leaders instead of the boys. Our own team 368's Joe Ribera competed in the cardiac run he didn't win but at least he tried. After the runs our team went back, took down camp, and went home.

This April our team attended Varsity Games at Weber High School. Ty Hansen, Colton Wilson, Shane Guyman, and Curtis Sorenson all attended with Reed Tanner and Eric Thorson as Leadership for the trip. Each of the boys participated in a variety of games and competitions. As a team we took 5th place in the 4 x 100 relay. Colton Placed 5th in the Frisbee Throw, Curtis was 3rd at the golf competition, and Shane received 2nd Place for his drawing in the Art competition. We did a variety of activities that ranged from throwing a football (Bro. Thorson threw it about 50 yards), Basketball spot shoot, arm wrestling, push-ups, sit-ups, and a baseball throw. Everyone participated and had a lot of fun. Even Bro. Tanner Squeaked out a personal best of 51 push-ups in a minute. During the day we raced up the hill behind the school where Colton unofficially won. The Hotdogs and Nachos finished the day off nicely and we headed home to Logan.
