Climbing in the Canyon by Reed Tanner

This October our team decided they wanted to do some rock climbing and rappelling.  We were a bit of a rag tag group of not so great climbers but we spent several weeks at the climbing gym honing our skills.  Once we had the basics we set off to test what we had learned up Logan Canyon.  Curtis Sorenson, Mike Davies, Matt Carey, CJ Larsen, and Kaden Ivie all attended.  Syd Davies, Joe Ribera, Jake Christensen, and myself spent the day keeping the boys from killing themselves.

The boys quickly found confidence and began to try more and more.  By the end of the trip boys were belaying boys and CJ and Curtis were even doing a bit of lead climbing.

I think all of the boys would agree that they really enjoyed the rappelling.  We found a hundred foot drop off and spent a good part of a day throwing ourselves off of it to see how quickly we could reach the ground.  It was great fun.

We finished the trip off by inviting our families to join us at our camp site and enjoy some dutch oven cooking.  The next morning we got a few more hours of climbing in and headed for North Logan.

All in all it was a fantastic outing where boys demonstrated their abilities to learn, lead, and have fun while being safe.  It was enjoyed by all and it will definitely be looked forward to in the future.
